Why We Should Never Sell Nigeria - by Minister Of Power,Work And Housing (Babatunde Fashola)

KEYNOTE SPEECH AT THE NIGERIAN PENSION INDUSTRY STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP RETREAT ON JANUARY 21-23, 2016
We are gathered at a historic time to discuss an important matter.
Some may see a Pension Conference, but I see more.
I see a future for Africa, led by Nigeria, using the resources of the people to build a future that includes the people.
It is not a vision or an idea. It has gone beyond that. It is a journey, one that started a while ago when the Pension Reform Act was signed into Law.
That journey started with the coming together of some Nigerian minds. Minds like that of President Olusegun Obasanjo and Mr Fola Adeola. It has been nurtured by the dedicated hands of men and women who have served in the pension commission who are represented by the current Director- General Mrs Chinelo Amazu- Anohu. It has reached a major milestone from where it must reinvigorate itself .
The tools for that reinvigoration have been provided by our legislators in the Amendment they passed into in 2014. The success of this phase of the journey now rests with you and I. And this is why we gather.
In the letter of the Pension Commission inviting me to be a Keynote Speaker at this event, no topic was assigned.
However, some paragraphs of the letter which I have excerpted provide some directions as to the thinking of the organizers and I will share them with you:
(a)"Two of the most strategic themes, positive that returns (on investment) and visible (measurable) impact on the economy"
(b)"creating solutions to the binding constraints that Nigeria faces in developing "bankable projects" in infrastructure and real estate that pension funds can invest in…"
(c)"While the pool of Pension Funds are a veritable source of capital, lack of suitable investable vehicles with low risk profiles and sufficient comfort continues to hamper the drive to make visible economic impact"
It seems to me that the key words such as "positive real returns", "visible impact on the economy", "bankable products…that pension funds can invest in", "low risk profile and sufficient comfort" makes it easy to create my own topic "Overcoming the Challenges and Managing the Risks and Constraints that Inhibit the Investment of Private Capital and Funds in Nigeria's Infrastructure Landscape in Order to Make a Visible Economic Impact".
In seeking to address this topic, which I hope accords with the objective of the organizers, I will attempt to be empirical by a case study discussion where I will review some of the public infrastructure that have been funded by private capital, and I will do some comparisons of what the Pension Funds are achieving in other economies.
In this way, I hope to highlight the differences between us and those economies, and in that way, make my recommendations about what we should be doing.
The History of Pension Funds in Nigeria
It is impossible in this kind of forum to exhaustively deal with the issue of Pension Funds and its management in the Nigerian public service.
What is appropriate is to highlight the largely unsuccessful initiatives that have been characterized by such brand names as the National Provident Fund (NPF) and the National Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
Those brands represent the era when pension was only the responsibility of the employer,
What simply happened was that from a failure of governance, coupled with lack of funds as a result of planning deficiency, and sometimes incompetence, pensioners faced a life of uncertainty after a lifetime of service and at a time when they had become frail, unable to work or earn income and often then left disappointed by a system that had taken all they had to give.
It is sad a story that is written on so many faces characterized by many living and dead people whose lives tell the story of anguish.
It is a chapter of Nigeria's story that is perhaps best forgotten, but regrettably they cannot yet be consigned to history because there are still debts to be paid, there are still beneficiaries who are owed, there are still Nigerians, who gave a lot, almost everything under a defined benefit scheme that is yet to give them benefit.
The current pension regime, whose managers are the organizers of this event happily have a better story to tell. It is a story of mutual contribution, where the employee and the employer share the responsibility of planning for the tomorrow.
It is a story different from the past, where the funds are safe and have exceeded N5 Trillion.
It is a story of better management.
It is the starting point for this discussion because there is a hard lesson here.
If people put their money into what they believe in, it is likely to serve them better.
The old scheme where there was no contribution by the employee perhaps reduced their role as stakeholders but does not justify the mismanagement.
But the real story is about contribution, paying your share; and it takes me to the next point which is diversification and the relevance of diversification to our subject.
Diversification
For over 3 (Three) decades we have mouthed the need to diversify our economy in order to open up more sectors for productive activities, income, economic growth and jobs.
But we failed to follow through because of oil resources. It was quick and bountiful income even though there were boom and burst cycles.
Every time the cycle burst, we scampered, and promised to diversify, we take tentative steps, we feel pain. We do not endure, and it is easy to escape because not too far on the horizon is a boom in oil prices and we go back to an old life.
Remember 1970s up to 1976; remember the early 1980s and the burst. Remember the late eighties and Gulf War boom, remember the 1990s and the drop, remember the period of 2009-2014 when oil sold for over $100 per barrel for almost 5 years.
What did we do? We went on a spending spree. Politicians promised everything free.
Everyone got a wage increase, sometimes up to 80% (minimum wage from N7,500 – N10,000 raised to N18,000.00). Did our income as a Nation increased by 80%?
As we sought after free health, free education, free fuel, free housing and free everything, we refused to confront the reality that life is not free

Someone Help Me! My Wife Beats the Hell Out of Me When She’s Angry

Dear Readers,Happy sunday
l want to be open to you here, maybe my help can come from here. My marriage is 18years now and I have been pretending to be happy. I love my wife a lot and I will do anything for her. I do more favour to my wive's people more than myself. My brothers are well to do, so sometimes they fill in the gap, making my parents to over look my absence in terms of money.
I am a very quiet person and I don't want problems in my life, I built my house while I was working in a bank and I resigned and got my own company, which I'm managing now. My wife was my university friend and we never courted much and got married. I married her a virgin too.
One of her problem that I find too hard to deal with is temper. She has a high temper. And when I try to ask her some things she flares up. I sometimes don't ask anymore because she can't have a low tone conversation. I live in fear because sometimes in the middle of a conversation, once she flares up and approaches me, Cynthia , she will drag me to the ground and beat the hell out of me.
It's a shameful thing to say but I must say it. After chatting with you yesterday evening, I decided to open up. My wife beats me and it has occurred countlessly. My children have witnessed it countlessly and it has reduced now that the children are grown . I have 4 boys. The last time she did it, my son intervened and gave her a blow on the nose and she backed off. Instead of discussing things with my wife, I rather send her a text message or call her on the phone while at work.
She has her good part, which is she cooks and keeps the house neat, but for sex, it is when she wants , and in the middle of the sex, once she gets angry, she gets up and goes away. I don't know if any other man is experiencing what am seeing in my marriage.
Last 2 months, we buried my father, so after the burial, we seated for a family meeting, all my brothers were around and their wives, before this meeting my eldest brother said that everyone should switch off their handsets and let's have some peace, not knowing my wife didn't, at the middle of the conversation, my wife's phone rang, she picked it and started saying 'hello, hello,' where everyone is.
I told her to leave and take the call that we are talking here, she told me to mind my business. So instead of her leaving she got up, backed all of us and started answering and laughing and my brother got angry, went to where she was and took the phone from her. She stood up and before we knew what was happening she slapped my eldest brother on his face and that was how it all started . My brother beat the living day light out of her, and told her she has bitten more than she can chew.

I must be honest with you, I never for once told my brother to stop, my brother himself has never laid a hand on his wife, his marriage is 25 years old. I just left the scene, even my children followed me.
Since we came back, she parked her thing from our room to the guest room, she has been living there and I have been living in the master bedroom. These days we eat fast food, she wakes up in the morning and leaves for work, because she is a nurse.
I just want peace to reign, but my children are tired of eating fast food. Last week my son complained and I had to pay one woman that sells restaurant to cook me onugbu soup and nsala, my children's favorite, she cooked and brought it, so me and my sons shared it in a bowl and put inside the fridge. That is what we are eating now.
Please your parliamentary people should tell me, is this a marriage? Don't see my quietness as weakness because my father always tells us to respect woman, no matter the amount of provocation. I am 55 years and she is 48 years old. My eldest brother is 64 years old.

Women Watch Your Kids; Baby Swallows Mum's Wedding Ring

Babies put all kinds of things in their mouth, if you have a baby please be careful and watchful...
According to a Reddit user, his wife lost her ring and searched everywhere, but couldn't find it. She came to the conclusion to take their toddler to her GP 'just in case'.

The GP X-rayed the child, and as you can see the lost wedding ring is clearly visible.
The father said, "The reason the pediatrician suggested the x-ray was to ensure it wasn't getting stuck anywhere it shouldn't. Retrieving the ring wasn't the concern.

"He's actually shown no signs of discomfort at all. I'm certain his older brothers will be telling him about this for the rest of his life. Now we dissect each diaper like 5th grade science class."
Anyway they got lucky, the father revealed that the ring later came out after his son pooped without any prompting needed.

"We can't believe how quickly it passed, and it didn't seem to cause him any pain on the way out...

What A Love!! : I Poured Acid on Him Because I Love Him - Woman Tells Police

"The woman who gave me a substance told me that it was a charm meant to endear my husband to me. I never knew that what she gave me was acid. All I was trying to do was to keep my husband's love so that he would not think of leaving me, because I know that my marriage with any other man would not endure because of my barrenness."
These were that words of Remi Agunbiade (38), a resident of Ita Barika, Foko area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after she was arrested by the policemen from Iyaganku Division over an alleged attempt to kill her husband, one Olawale Shola, by pouring acid on him on January 27, 2016.
The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar happening at Oje area of Ibadan where a man allegedly poured a bottle of acid on the mother of his two kids for reasons best known to him. But the difference is that while the Oje suspect ran away after committing the act, the Foko victim, Shola prevented his assailant from escaping as he ran after her and held her until neighbours came to assist him in preventing the lady from running away.
According to Crime Reports the Foko incident happened at about 9a.m while Shola was lying down in a room he stayed with his partner, Remi.
In an interview with Remi after her arrest, the lady, who also got some of the acid on her skin, claimed ignorance of the substance she poured on her partner, saying that she thought it was a love charm.
According to her,"I met Shola in 2003 and we have been together since then. He was the one who forced me to abort for him twice, and since then, I have not been able to get pregnant again. Then, he had a wife with two kids".
"When I had my first pregnancy, he said that his wife was also pregnant with their third child, asking me to abort mine, which I did. He used to schedule his stay between the two of us. We used to quarrel often and this got me worried because I knew that if he left me, I would not be able to have another steady relationship since no man would be willing to live with a barren woman".
"I met a lady called Iya Azeez at a provision stall at Agbeni market, Ibadan. During our discussion, I intimated her of my challenges and said that I didn't want to leave my husband. She replied that I would have to resolve the issue through self-help. I asked for assistance to stop further quarrels between me and my husband and she said she would help me get water that had been prayed into from an Alfa, stating that all I would need to do is to sprinkle it on my husband, after which he would love me without holding anything back. She gave me a bottle containing the liquid substance on Tuesday, January 26″.
"On Wednesday morning, my partner, Shola, was lying down when I took the bottle and poured the content on his head. He cried in agony from sleep and I also shouted and ran out. But he followed me and caught up with me beside the house next to ours".
"He asked people to help him hold me so that I would not run away. By then, a huge crowd had gathered and it was then they started saying that it was acid that I poured him. Some of the liquid got rubbed on my body when he held me, giving me some burns."
The suspect claimed that she did not know the residence of the friend who gave her the purported bottle of liquid, saying that she only met the lady about two months ago. She confirmed that she quarrelled with her husband concerning accommodation, since she already told him that she was tired of living with him in a room she rented herself.
"I decided to pack everything out of the room to another place, leaving it bare. His friends intervened and he came to sleep in the room with me on Tuesday. My action was because I didn't want to have another husband."
She also disclosed that her husband started dating another lady in her neighbourhood about three years ago, and that the lady used to scorn her childlessness. Remi added that her husband rented a room for the lady.
Crime Reports was also at the Burns Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan where the victim was on admission. He narrated his experience thus:"Remi and I have been together for over 11 years. My relationship with her caused a friction between her and my first wife who has four children for me.
"I used to defend Remi anytime she had a quarrel with my first wife, especially because she had yet to have a child. At a time, I abandoned my first wife to be with Remi when the first wife cursed Remi and said she would never have any child till she would quit relationship with me".
"Also about three years ago, I started dating a lady. This caused Remi to be threatening her. She even went as far as quarrelling with the lady. Last year, I discovered that my first wife was already dating another man because of the neglect she suffered from me. As a result, I called Remi in October 2015 and told her that I would have to share days of the week between her and my first wife. Initially, she was angry at my suggestion but later said I should start in January 2016″.
"I went to my first wife twice in January and by the I returned to Remi's place, she had changed the lock and had packed all her belongings and mine. She also collected my phone from me under the pretext that she wanted to use it. After my friend's intervention, she returned on Monday, January 25. But I went to sleep in the third lady's house. On Tuesday, I went to Remi's place and stayed there with her in the bare room".
"On Wednesday, I was lying down, waiting for a friend. Suddenly, I felt a warm liquid on me. As I opened my eyes, I saw as she was about to run out and I went after her. I raised the alarm and people came. I told them that she had already threatened that she would do an unforgettable thing to me. That was how I was rushed to the hospital."
Shola admitted asking Remi to have an abortion in the past, but said it was only once.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the story, said that the suspect was still undergoing investigation, adding that she would be arraigned to court at the conclusion of investigation.
Ajisebutu warned members of the public against adopting acid as a weapon of revenge, saying that the act was criminal.
Speaking on Shola and the second patient, Abimbola, the Public Relations Officer of the UCH, Mr Deji Bobade assured that they would get the best of treatments. According to Bobade,"it is good that they have passed the critical stage. We hope that in a matter of days or weeks, depending on how fast the healing process is. they should be discharged home."

Small Girls, Relax! See why Men Should Marry a Working Lady

I don't agree with everything here because I believe a lady who has been trained to be a good wife will be, either she is working in a office or running a business full time or part time. But let's hear him out:
So much relationship concerns are running in the minds of people, in particular between young folks. Most young guys and ladies are asking many questions concerning their relationship. Some of the questions asked are if it is alright for a working class man to date a girl still in tertiary school with the mindset of marrying her. Some guys are complaining that they found their girlfriend with another guy if they should break up the relationship?
These are why some relationships that have lasted for months and years end abruptly. Details…
This article focuses on why you should marry a lady who is working. It doesn't mean I am against dating a lady still studying in school, but am against dating a lady that still thinks as she is in school.
The climax of this article is that dating a working class lady has much more advantage than dating an undergrad. Why? Below are my reasons:
1. Better At Managing Money
Dating a working class lady is so good because she knows and feels the condition of the economy. When she spends, she does it with sense and not like ladies who don't know that making cash is hard and spends anyhow. With this kind of lady, you don't need to worry about the way your finance is being spent.
2. Maturity
Going through work stress builds up maturity in her. Even though girls have a general nature; there is still a difference you will see between a working lady and an undergrad. Matured ladies are mostly needed for dating and not just ladies that begs for recharge cards all the time.
3. Her Hospitality Is Heightened
It is expected she has overcome the "Me Alone" character because a part of her salary goes to her family, probably. Sometimes, she transfers some to her siblings. Most of the time, she is left with a little. At those times, her display picture will change to "Family is all". True! Those lads in her workplace will be questioning, "what's she doing with her cash?". Now you grasp. You can be sure she will be wise with money and you guys can plan together easier.
4. She Has A 'better' View On What She Need In Her Man.
She has met guys before you, so her taking you is more of her "last resort". She'll respect you well.
5. Less Time for Irregular/Childish Stuff
It's hard to find a lady working who is preoccupied with work, find time to live irresponsibly (partying). It might exist but only in limited cases. More often than not, she kills time with her dearest besties, not with any guy. If she is ALWAYS on Facebook, forget her. At least, you can tell she has a vision, a feeling, an impulse. Even if she is less occupied, she tries to improve her tailoring, dancing or other skill. She dislikes being idle. Above all, silly stuff like making money out of guys is a NO for her.
6. Work Exposure
Having to work with other wedded co-workers of hers, she gets to know the real necessities of every man thus growing into matrimony with some form of appropriate knowledge. (Just hope she doesn't meet the wrong women at work).

Help, I Want to See Mama - 4-year-old Boy Whose Eyes Were Removed By Ritualists Cries (Photo)

This is an update on the 3-year-old boy named Abubakar Usman whose eyes were removedby some ritualists in Kaduna last week.

The boy's father, Usman Isa, says doctors at the Ahmadu Bello University have performed an operation on the little boy. According to Isa who spoke with Daily Trust, the doctors said the ritualists removed everything in the boys eyes and that there was no hope of him seeing again except by a miracle.
"The Kaduna hospital has referred us back to ABUTH. Doctors have conducted surgery yesterday. From what they told us, the perpetrators have removed everything that has to do with the eyes, which would make fixing them difficult. However, doctors said that they would review the operation to see the outcome, hoping they can fix artificial ones."

He said the doctors said the artificial eyes would be fixed just to fill the holes, but not for the young boy to see. "Except if Allah performs a miracle," he sobbed.
Meanwhile the grandmother of little Usman, Malama Hadiza Usman, narrated how she got to know that her grandson's eyes had been removed by ritualists while he was on his way to an evening Islamiyya class.

In tears, Malama Hadiza told Daily Trust that she would never forget the incident for the rest of her life.
She said: "I'd given him N5 to buy sweets on his way, on Sunday, January 24. He left the house with his brother Umar, but on their way they were intercepted by yet-to-be identified men who took him to an uncompleted building and gouged his eyes out."
At the hospital, little Abubakar was telling those around him to open his eyes to enable him see his mother and grandmother.

"Open my eyes, I want to see Mama. Mama, where are you? Where's Grandma?"he kept wailing.

Heartbroken- How I Caught My Mother Having S*x With My Husband

Life is such an unending drama. At times I wonder if there is anything like true happiness. We always have one part of our lives where the sadness is springing forth from. There is this popular belief that we only find perfect peace when we die. This point of my life prompts me to face the ultimate fear of every human being which is death.
I am 35-year old woman from Port Harcourt. I met my husband, Alfred during my days in the bank. He was a regular customer and after a disagreement with him one day while the bank's server was experiencing issues, we became friends. One thing led to another and we started dating which later led to our marriage a year later. My mother, 59, who is a widow never saw anything good about Alfred. She criticized every bit of his life. This almost ruined our plans to get married but I stood my ground not really because I love him but I was 33 years old with much pressure to get hooked as my friends in my age range were already having kids. It was a golden opportunity for me and I couldn't afford to lose him. I was scared of being lonely for the rest of my life which is a normal feeling among over-age single ladies.
In the course of interrogating my mother on her stark hatred for Alfred, I realized she made no sense with her random reasons which I found incomprehensible. One of her reasons was that Alfred is tall, fair and handsome which constitutes the major attributes of infidelity in marriage as other women will signify interest in him. I laughed this off. Alfred is a wonderful guy. He is quite shy but very soft and caring. Even though I had my fears about other women trying to steal him from him, I remained defiant and prepared to secure what is mine.
After our first child; a very handsome boy, I was retrenched from the bank as a result of the regular restructuring process and cash crunch issues. I started selling shoes at the store. My mom assisted in taking care of my baby at home.
My mother's presence at our home worsened the relationship between her and Alfred, she seized every available opportunity to insult him which didn't go down well with me. At a point I almost hired a nanny to relieve my mom of her duties but people advised me against the decision. My mom didn't seem happy staying with us but she never left which bothered me and I wasn't bold enough to tell her to go as I am her only child who have been with her since my father passed away 10 years ago.
One day, our neighbour who stays in the opposite flat came to my stall and advised me against letting my mom stay in the house. My neighbour is a full time housewife who is quite popular in the neighbourhood for gossiping. Her reasons were not clear. She said letting her stay is detrimental to my marriage and with time the signs will manifest. I pestered her on her reasons and she revealed my husband comes home from work in the afternoon virtually everyday to stay with my mother in the house during which some loud moaning of pleasure are heard. According to her, she isn't sure of the woman but from the voice and movements, its my mom. What an impossibility! Our flats seem close and sometimes, you could hear what is happening at the next flat from my room. I couldn't believe it considering the strained relationship between them. I was so annoyed. I almost beat her up. I angrily sent her away.
On a second thought, I placed both of them under surveillance and didn't observe anything strange. During my observations, my mother almost slapped Alfred for mistakenly spilling our baby's food. I was so unimpressed with my mother's disrespect for Alfred. He swore he was going to eject her from the house but I pleaded. This was the confirmation of my the falsehood behind my neighbour's claim but my only concern was that Alfred wasn't bothering me for s*x anymore. He was staying for over a month without lovemaking and no complaints. Its unusual as his libido could be unbearable at times. Even when I make moves at night, he complains of being tired. His weak points were his nipples, once you suck them, he gets 'enraged' like a lion ready to devour its prey but they were inactive.
One day I had to give him a head on a lengthy note to put him in the mood and even when he got hard. He couldn't exceed one round. This is someone that could take a woman on as long as she wants. My husband is from Akwa Ibom for crying out loud and their men are famous for their sexual prowess. He gave his current work schedule as an excuse which I found suspicious and disturbing. An average Akwa Ibom man could pick a beautiful woman over a huge sum of money to start a business. They believe money can always be exhausted in the course of spending but the woman will always be there to bring pleasure and happiness.
I received the shock of my life two months later when I forgot some fancy shoes I brought from Dubai which I wanted to deliver to my customer at home. It was 1pm in the afternoon. I left my salesgirl at the stall and rushed home because the woman was disappointed after fantasizing about the pictures of the shoes I sent to her via Whatsapp. I drove home and parked my car outside. I shockingly saw my husband's car at the garage. This was someone that left home before me. I was bothered. The feeling reminded me of my undergraduate days when you visit the scoreboard to check your result in a course that was rumoured to have recorded a mass failure. I was terrified with the words of my neighbour ringing in my head. The main door wasn't locked. My husband's shoes, shirt and singlet were littered around the sitting room. Our son was sleeping on the sofa. I quietly moved up the staircase with my shoes off to prevent any sound from my movements. From the staircase, I could hear some intense moaning and groaning. It was like a battlefield. Lo and behold, the sounds were from my own mother and my husband who I assumed were stalemates.I never knew my mother was still sexually active. She was screaming and uttering all sorts of words associated with ecstacy.
I got closer to where the noises were coming from, it was our bedroom, my matrimonial bed. I wished it was a dream. I was begging for someone to wake me up so that I could pray over it. I felt the ground should open and swallow me. The door wasn't closed. My husband and my mother were stark n*ked and he was heavily humping her from behind as they backed me. My heart broke when my mother muttered statements like:
''I love you! I wish I met you first!! You are too sweet!!!''
''My daughter doesn't deserve you! I love you!! Alfred baby!!! Alfred oooo!!!!''
I screamed so loud. They were scared to death on sighting me. The next time I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital. I was told I passed out. My life is so miserable right now. I don't know where to start from. My sickness currently is from the mind. Alfred has been coming to beg but the sight of him complicates my problem. I don't ever want to set my eyes on him and my mother again. I feel for our son that will become a product of a broken home. I am so confused. I have begged the doctors for mercy killing but they have refused. I think I am going insane.
The emotional pains are too much for me to bear. Alfred revealed to me via a lengthy email that my mom seduced him long ago while he desperately sought to make friends with her for the sake of our marriage. That's no just reason for him to be sleeping with my own mother.
That's a curse. I am so confused. Where do I go from here?

A Job Seeker Revealed How She was Raped, Robbed By 2 Undergraduates.

Two undergraduates have been arrested in Lagos for brutally gang-raping a job-seeker they met on social media simply identified only as Nike, and robbing her of valuables in the Igando area of the state.
The incident happened on Thursday, January 14, 2016, on Idowu Ibiyemi Street, in the Igando area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the suspects, identified as Valentine and Kusimo, allegedly took turns to rape their victim after luring her into a hotel.
Valentine, an indigene of Imo State, was said to be seeing off the 27-year-old with the hope that she would not raise the alarm when Nike suddenly called for help. The suspects were subsequently arrested and taken to the Igando Police Division.

It was gathered that Nike, an indigene of Osun State, traveled down from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where she was based, to the Igando to meet the Valentine at his house but unfortunately, was deceived. Instead of taking her to his apartment, the suspect took her to a popular hotel in the area.
According to a police source, Valentine and Nike had met on a dating site. He said:"Valentine is a 400-level Civil Engineering student of a university in Imo State. He chatted up the lady on the dating site and from there, their conversation shifted to Whatsapp, a mobile messaging application.

"The suspect told his friend, Kusimo, about the girl and they decided to trick her. Kusimo, a student of a polytechnic in Ogun State, would sometimes take Valentine's phone and be chatting with Nike, without the girl knowing that it was Kusimo.
"Having done that for some days, they decided to invite her to Lagos."
The source said, "The girl did not know she was taken to a hotel because he took her through the back into the room.

"The second suspect, had, however, hid inside the toilet. As the lady entered the room, Valentine shut the door and Kusimo jumped out from his hideout with a bottle. He smashed the bottle on the ground and he told the girl to cooperate or they would kill her.

"While Valentine had two rounds, the second suspect had three rounds of sex with her. After they had raped her, they robbed her of her BlackBerry and N15, 000.
"In order to prevent her from exposing them, they took snapshots of her nakedness and threatened that if she told anyone about her ordeal, they would put the pictures on the Internet."

When the girl raised alarm drawing the attention of passersby, the rapists were immediately apprehended. She was said to have narrated what happened to people, which led to the arrest of both suspects.
They were detained at the Igando Police Division, before the matter was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

However, another police source has added a twist to the drama. The source said the suspects claimed that Nike agreed to mutual sex with them and only raised the alarm because she was not well paid.

She said, "How can you leave your place in Ibadan for Lagos and claim not to know what you are doing? It is not true that they raped her. She only wanted to make money off the men, and that was why she raised the alarm outside.

"The suspect said she demanded N200,000 for settlement and she is saying she does not want her fiancé and family members to be aware. She is not innocent."
Punch reports that the Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incident saying in a text message that the case has been charged to court.

Top 5 Nigerian Universities For Postgraduate Studies

This is a list of the Top 5 Nigerian Universities For
Postgraduate Studies.
A lot is happening across the country in terms of the
development of education. This is especially very
obvious in developed countries because the value of
education over there is held with optimum concern.
However, the story in developing countries like
Nigeria is also changing.
At least, there used to be a time in Nigeria when
having primary school certificate was not only
sufficient, but it was valuable enough for you to
present for job applications and you were sure you
would get a good job, gone are the good old days.
Then as time went on it became the secondary school
certificate and then first-Degree.
Today, a first-degree may not even be enough to
fetch you a good job. Reason why you might need
something more, which is postgraduate studies.
Upgrading academic qualification is what has driven
quite a number of people into seeking Postgraduate
Studies in order to increase the competitive
advantage and chances in the labour market.
Nevertheless, not all universities offer Postgraduates
Studies and even if they do, it's differing levels of
quality and we need to know the best of post
graduate schools.
Now let us take a look at top 5 Nigerian universities
that offer Postgraduate studies.
1. University of Lagos (UNILAG)
This is one of the most popular/expensive Federal
Universities in Nigeria (if you like, you can call it the
'private-public' University of Nigeria).
Graduates from this citadel of learning carry
themselves with a lot of pride.
The Federal Government of Nigeria tried not too long
ago to change the name of the school which was
founded in 1962 to MAULAG – Moshood Abiola
University of Lagos, and this move by the government
was met with stiff opposition from both present and
past students of the school. UNILAG is a good choice
for Postgraduate students for several reasons. Its
certificates are generally well accepted. It runs one of
the fastest academic calendars with relative stability.
Barring all unforeseen circumstances, you should be
done with your postgraduate programme in 14
months.
More information here: http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng/
2. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
UNILORIN, one of the nation's federal universities,
established in 1975, is one of the go-to schools for
postgraduate studies and even for degree courses.
This has become possible because in recent times
the school has been able to maintain a stable school
calendar for about 7 years. If you are lucky to have a
nice supervisor and your thesis is not so difficult, you
should be through with your postgraduate
programme within a year.
Get more information here: http://
www.unilorin.edu.ng/pgschool/
3. University of Nigeria, Nsuka (UNN)
UNN is not seen as a major player in the league of
schools that run postgraduate progammes, and this
seemingly disadvantage is because of its location; it
is not located in a city.
This school that was established in 1955, remains
one of the schools where you can obtain your
masters quickly, in fact in less than a year, if time is a
factor that you would consider in choosing a school,
especially in the engineering and science studies.
Though some other courses can take up to 18
months to finish (and this is not peculiar to UNN
alone).

post-graduate

4. University of Ibadan (UI)
Some say this is the 'Harvard' of Nigeria. Well, you
will not say they are far from the truth, looking at the
pedigree of the school.
Being the first university in Nigeria, established in
1948 initially known as University College, Ibadan
(UCI) before it was changed to University of Ibadan in
1962. Getting admitted into the school for a
postgraduate study is always a herculean task.
This is due in part to the number of prospective
applicants for postgraduate programmes. Give and
take, you should be through with your postgraduate
studies within 18 – 21 months. UI maintains a high
standard in quality, therefore applicants must be
prepared for hard work.

5. Covenant University (CU)
One of the most popular privately owned universities
in Nigeria. The Chancellor being the very enigmatic
Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel church.
Since the establishment in October 2002, the school
has changed the dynamics of how schools at all
levels are run in Nigeria, holding herself to the
highest standards obtainable in developed countries
in the Western world.
Regarded as one of the most equipped universities in
the country, the school has won University of the
Year Award more than once. Applicants can rest be
assured that they will complete their postgraduate
studies in this school in record time of between 12 –
18 months.

FG Summon depots to sell kerosene at N73.37k per litre

NIGERIA may be headed for another round of Kerosene crisis as the Federal Government has directed petroleum depots to sell the Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) at N73.37k per litre from the initial price of N40.90k per litre it had set earlier.

At the former price of N40.90k per litre, only Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) outlets sold at the recommended price of N50 .00. while other filling stations sold at between N120.00 and N150.00.
The Federal Government had pegged price of Kerosene at N50 per litre, making the product to be scarce and prompting marketers to indiscriminately hike the retail price to between N80 to N100 per litre.

But the latest directive on the new price was contained in a memo to all petroleum products marketers in country released by the PPPRA in Abuja.
The memo also circulated to petroleum depots at the weekend enjoined them to comply with the new ex- depot price of N73.37k per litre, although it does not give more details on the pump price.

Already the directive has elicited criticisms from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), which said the price of kerosene should also be reduced as was the case with petrol because they are products of the same crude oil, the price of which has crashed in the international market.

This development means that with an increase of more than 70 per cent, marketers would inevitably, also hike the retail price of the product after adding the associated charges.

It also shows that whether it is at NNPC outlets or at private filling stations, Nigerians would have to pay more for kerosene.
Reacting to the directive, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), said the new price template for kerosene announced at the weekend by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Authority (PPPRA) would go along way to alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian people who have paid so much for the product over the years.

The National President of the IPMAN, Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo, said, the new price was commendable and that marketers will comply immediately.

"We shall study the template and make our position known before the end of the week, but I must state here that government has reasoned that even when it was placed at N50 per litre end users actually buy it at N120 to N130 per litre.

"What is our concern now if for government to redouble its efforts and ensure the product is made available to marketers

Jobless Husband Beats Up Pregnant Wife Black And Blue Over Refusal to Handover Her Salary

Ekwere Alex, a 33-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned at an Ogudu Magistrates' Court, Lagos for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife, Ekwere Esther.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky, said the complainant, Esther, had lodged a complaint that her husband,'an applicant, collects her salary every month end.'

The prosecutor alleged that the accused assaulted and battered his wife on January 14, because of her refusal to part with her December salary. He said that Esther, whose delivery date was near, was paid her December salary and preceded on her vacation.
"The accused chased her with her pregnancy around the house premises and beat her up.

"According to the complainant, her husband threatened to kill her if she dares come back to their house,"the prosecutor noted, adding that the accused had refused to supply his wife with basic needs, knowing fully well that her health and that of the baby were at risk.

Lagos Woman Reveals How A Male Doctor Fondled My Breasts Under the Guise of Medical Checkups

I dont know if I should tell my husband about this or just swallow it so as to avoid causing problems or a confrontation.

I went to /_____/ hospital close at Alausa to check for chest lumps. A very young doctor came strolling in to the office where I was asked to wait. He looked so young that I was even tempted to ask him if he was really a doctor or was a student on housemanship but I decided to keep cool as he was wearing their white gown as was actually assigned to me by the admin at the general waiting area.

The hospital was actually recommended by my sister in-law who had her mammogram there. It was my first time and I was very uncomfortable when he asked me to remove my top and bra and then he started touching my breasts. I decided to close my eyes and wait for him to finish the examination.

The touching soon turned to caressing and at a point he seen to concentrate on my nipple and to be honest, I have a very sensitive nipple and the always harden and jut out when touched (even breast feeding my babies felt that way)
This went on and on until I was almost shivering. I was embarrassed beyond words and wanted to ask if lumps form in the nipple area but i felt so violated to speak. I opened my eyes to tell him to stop only to discover that he was looking at me smiling sheepishly! All the while he's been fondling my breasts!
I felt so awful.

I felt used and molested. He didn't say a word, I removed his hands and dressed up while he continued smiling and then started saying some medical trash that didnt make no sense to me cos I wasnt listening anymore. When I finished dressing up, he even asked me to come back in 7 days time for another round of checks as I left his office.

This happened on Monday and up till now I have this heavy feeling of being violated by a kid. I still cannot calm down, as if I was defiled. I have been moody and unable to tell my husband. Please what should I do?
In the same vein, the poster got a professional response from an anonymous person, shared to enlighten other women against such a mishap:
"If you went to a hospital for a doctor to check your breast for lumps, he will invariably touch your breasts.

It is called "palpation". If he did not touch any other place (vagina etc.) you will find it difficult and in fact look foolish if you complain that you were "inappropriately touched". What to do is to stop going to that very hospital or complain to the hospital management about your experience and leave it at that. Professionally speaking, a "chaperon" preferably a lady ought to have been there during such intimate examination. Next time you visit a doctor for such, ask "where is your chaperon" and if none is provided, decline any examination. That's the right of a patient!

Wickedest!!!: Suspected Ritualists Pluck Out Little Boy's Eyes in Zaria (Graphic Photo)

A facebook user, Musa Saqafa, has shocked the internet community earlier today after he posted a very graphic photo of a little boy whose eyes were plucked out by suspected ritualists alongside a weird caption in Hausa.

Below is what he captioned the photo;
"NNA LILLAHI WA'INNA ILAIHI RAJI'UN YA ALLAH MUNA ROQONKA DA SUNAYANKA KYAWAWA WA'YANDA MUKA SANI DA WANDA BAMU SANIBA, WANNAN YARON DA WASU MASU NEMAN DUNIYA TA HARAMTACCIYAR HANYA SUKA KWAQULEWA IDANUWA A ZARIA. KAHANASU KWANCIYAR HANKALI ADUNIYA KAHADASU DA BALA'I IRINNA MUTANAN ANNABI SHUAIBU, DA SALIHU, DA NUHU AMIN. ALLAH KASAKAMASA KABIMASA HAKKINSA KABASHI LAFIYA AMIN."

After some research, it was gathered that he was trying to write;"The boys eyes were plucked out in Zaria, and he said a prayer begging God to protect those we know and those we don't know. He also said the seekers of earthly possessions who have taken his sight should be deprived of peace and stability in this world and God should bring tragedies their way, and heal the boy.

Lai Mohammed(Minister Of Information and Culture) Reveals Why Poverty Rate Increased in Nigeria

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed has spoken on the anti-corruption war of the current administration as well as corruption as the major catalyst of poverty in Nigeria on Tuesday during his meeting with Abuja Bureau Chiefs in Abuja.
He reiterated that some corrupt officials in the country are beginning to sabotage the anti-craft war by branding it as selective and dictatorial in both the local and international media.

He said, ''The cost of corruption is evidenced in the rate poverty in the country. Whereas Nigeria's national budget has increased from just over 900 billion Naira in 1999 to over 6 trillion Naira in 2016, poverty has also increased almost by the same proportion. The reason is not far fetched: Appropriated funds have mostly ended up in the pockets of a few looters.

''When the money meant to construct roads are looted, the end result is that the roads are not built and the people suffer and even die in avoidable road accidents. When the money meant to provide electricity is looted, we all are perpetually sentenced to darkness. When the money meant for healthcare is pocketed by a few, we are unable to reduce maternal and infant mortality.

''These are the costs of corruption. Let us not just talk about corruption in the abstract, let us be counting its cost to our lives, in order to drive home the point that corruption must be tackled decisively for Nigerians to feel the impact of governance."

The Minister said it was saddening that some otherwise credible voices have unwittingly allowed themselves to be railroaded into the bandwagon of pro-corruption orchestra, while some "hack writers" are struggling to whittle down the impact of the anti-corruption campaign

Landlady Arrested for Connecting Water Well to NNPC Pipeline

A 59-year-old landlady, Mrs Floyinka Ayinda has been arrested and detained at Idimu division for her alleged role in vandalising NNPC pipeline in Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State, western Nigeria, according to PM news.

Ayinda allegedly connected a pipe inside her water well to NNPC pipeline and has been siphoning petrol illegally for the past three years.

The incident happened at KML 1, LASU Road, Iyana Odo bus stop in Isheri Olofin, a suburb of Lagos.
The incident was discovered by officers of the Anti-Vandalism Intelligence Unit Team B set up by Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase who acted on tip-off.

Ayinde allegedly admitted after her arrest that for the past three years, vandals has been operating in her house and she reported to the NNPC officials but they did not do anything about it.

She denied her involvement in the act and said she made a mistake for not informing the police because she relied on NNPC who asked her not to worry. The well and pipe connected to NNPC pipeline.

Ayinde revealed that the NNPC officials use to come with a team and she did not ask to know whether they were really officers or not. When a reporter visited the scene, the house was deserted by the tenants.

Some jerrycans used for storing scooped petrol were all over the the premises before the task-force struck. Armed officers of the task force were seen manning the house and its environs.

Efforts to speak with them proved futile. They directed the reporter to their boss, CSP Valentine Olumese in Abuja for comment.

At the time of filing this report, Ayinde was still detained at the station where she was writing her statement. A source said, she might be flown to Abuja for further interrogation.

Shocking!!! This Artist(stuart Bennett) HaNged Himself Because No One Attended His Art Exhibition

An artist, Stuart Bennett, has hanged himself after no one attended the launch of his new art project which he had spent a lot of time on.

58-year-old Bennett, organised an opening day at his studio because he wanted to start teaching art to children. However the event clashed with the town's horticultural show - and nobody came. He then hanged himself out of frustration.

A cleaner discovered Mr Bennett's body at the studio on Palmerston Street, Bollington, at 4pm the next day, according to the Manchester Evening News.
He had left a handwritten note, artwork and a heart-shaped chocolate on a desk.

Recording a verdict of suicide, coroner for Cheshire Nicholas Rheinberg said:"Such was his enthusiasm he galloped away with the project rather than plan it in care and detail.

"He changed the date of the open-day and it clashed with the horticultural show. It must've been quite a blow when the day came and went and not a single person attended."

Mrs Gretton-Wright, an acquaintance said they went for a coffee and a walk after the failed open day, before Mr Bennett took a takeaway back to the studio at around 8.30pm and planned to stay the night there.
She said:"He wasn't used to no one turning up. In Congleton he had a following, hangers on. He was taken back by the disappointment but after our walk had snapped out of it.

"Stuart was very restless. He always had a project on the go in order to feel valuable

Robbery Suspect Appeals to Govt to Give Him a Loan to Start Business so He Can Stop Stealing (Photo)

The suspect, Ayodeji Bakare, who was paraded at the Lagos state Police command in Ikeja, Lagos state on Monday, January 25, says he will stop being a robber if he gets a loan from the government to start a business;

He said: "I want govt to give me loan to start business to enable me stop armed robbery."
"I am an armed robber. We are three in number and we used to do stop and search operation and the total money I have made in armed robbery is N500,000.

"I started robbing in 2014 when I came out from prison in 2013; I went to Ikoyi prison for some months after being arrested for robbing a whiteman of his phone in Ikoyi Club. In prison, some inmates are bad and some are good. The bad ones learn bad things. I joined Eiye Cult in prison, they beat me and gave me water mixed with pepper"

"They later gave me orientation. When I was leaving prison, they gave me the name of an arms dealer who will give me gun. His name is Segun. You can see the Eiye mark on my body. I used to buy one bullet for N1,000. We used to buy like 15 to 20 bullets."

"If my bullet finishes, I call Segun who is based in Cotonou. When I collect gun from Segun in Cotonou, I enter motor that does not carry load. They don't search motor that does not carry load. "

Bakare also said that his wife who waited for him to come out of the prison when he was first arrested for armed robbery, will wait for him again if he is still sent back there because she loves him
"I have not married but I have a wife, she loves me. If I go to prison she will still wait for me because she waited for me the first time I went to prison."he said.

Texas couple honor late children with emotional photo

A family painting now hanging above the fireplace in Tony and Laura McBride's Texas home holds special meaning because it is a portrait the couple never thought would be possible. The portrait, photographed over the Thanksgiving holiday, shows the McBrides appearing to walk with the angelic-looking shadows of three young children.
The children in the photo represent the three children the McBrides say they lost at birth.
"We just wanted to reference a point in time," Laura McBride, 40, told ABC News. "Christopher would be 22, Tyler would be almost 18 and Kieran Shane would be just over one-year-old."
"When you lose a child early at birth, it's uncomfortable and people don't talk about it and women just live with it, so it's nice to have this tangible memory," McBride said.
McBride said she got the idea for the photo last year when she saw a story about a Georgia-based photographer, Brandy Angel, who gave a bride the gift of having her deceased son included in her wedding photos.
"I saw it and thought, 'Oh my goodness," McBride said. "I knew Brandy was in Georgia and I didn't know how that would work but something compelled me to call."
"I told her we live in Texas and she said she was going to be in Texas over Thanksgiving," she continued. "She was going to be in Killeen which is only an hour away. We knew that was divine intervention."McBride wanted to surprise her husband for Christmas so she told him that it was a family photo shoot that included their in-laws and nieces and nephews. Angel asked to take a shot of just the couple together and then, after the photo shoot, got to work adding in the images of their children.
Angel worked on the photo with Heather Pinheiro, a New Jersey-based web designer who donates her time.
"We went back and forth with ideas on how to accomplish what Laura wanted," Angel said. "What Heather created was so stunning I was speechless."McBride says her husband was equally stunned on Christmas morning when he unwrapped the photo.
"He cried," McBride said, tearing up herself. "He was very surprised and very moved and said it was his favorite gift ever." "What a great memory and comfort it is," she said of the photo.

Men volunteer to be trampled by cows in the belief it brings goodluck (photos)

Despite the obvious risks, these men won't be put off from exercising their faith and beefing up their luck. They volunteered to be trampled upon by cows in the belief it brings good luck. The villagers are seen lying down on the streets of Ujjain, in Madhya, central India, to mark Ekadeshi, an auspicious day after the Hindu festival of Diwali.
The organisers claim no one has ever been killed in the centuries old tradition, those who are injured believe they'll have good luck as the wounds heal.
The cows, an animal considered sacred in Hinduism, are decorated in henna and colourful floral headdresses before they are let loose to storm through the city.
The cows stamp on the men's backs as they run through the narrow streets while spectators usher the animals towards the men, making sure that every one is stepped on.
The belief is that the cows can help erase any problems and brings prosperity into their lives.
One regular participant, Manoj Kumar, 27, said he is well aware of the dangers but is tempted by the prospects of improved fortunes.
He said: 'I know it can be fatal but cow is our mother and she would not kill anyone so there is no danger at all. Sometimes when the mother is angry she punishes us for our mistakes. 'Most of us are unhappy with something or other in our life. We all have problems whether at home or work. But we believe if we allow us to get crushed by cows, the almighty will appreciate our sacrifice and pain and solve all our issues and bless us with happiness.'

SHOCKING! Olamide Deletes Photo With Don Jazzy Off His Instagram Page

Olamide and Don Jazzy both kicked off the biggest and most talked about beef this year and they seemed to have reconciled but it appears that these two just reconciled for the sake of the public and not for real.
Olamide and Don Jazzy were reconciled by Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote and they even both shared the same photo on their page with an apology to their fans.
Some days ago, Don Jazzy cleared all photos on his Instagram page and Olamide took note of this and decided to delete off the photo he took with Don Jazzy off his page as well.
Looks like there might still be a lot of beef brewing between these two, but whatever happens, they have ushered 2016 with beef and a lot of beefing has followed theirs, so we won't be surprised to see more.
Do you think both artists disrespected their fans by taking off the photos they took together off their Instagram pages?

I was r@p€‎d Severally in Kirikiri Prison – Teenage Boy Reveals Experience (Photo)

An under-aged boy who had a short spell behind bar has recounted how he was $exually abused by inmates without any interference by security operatives.
A teenager has revealed how he was r*ped several times while in Kirikiri Prison. The teenager, Bashua (surname withheld), said that the incident happened in 2014, when he was just 16-year-old. He said that the policemen doctored his age, to ensure they arraigned and sent him to prison, according to the New Telegraph.
Bashua had recently regained his freedom, through the intervention of the Stephen and Solomon Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). The foundation is led by Mr. Giwa Amu, a Lagos-based human rights lawyer.
Bashua, a secondary school student, said he was returning home from a coaching cla$$ when he was arrested by a team of policemen.
According to him, he was later charged to court for an offence he did not commit. He said: "I was remanded at the Kirikiri Prison and experienced being locked with over 100 inmates who were older than me. I was molested s*xually. I was r*ped several times in a day.
"They would tell me not to cry. I was in remand for one month and those days were hell for me. "I was going home from Epe, after coaching cla$$, when a team of policemen on patrol arrested me at Obalende and took me to Bar Beach Police Station, Victoria Island.
"The police kept me in a cell with other boys and suspects for one week. I was arrested on November 20, 2014. The policemen told me and the other boys that we belonged to a gang that attacked a team of policemen. "I denied the allegation.
"I told the policemen that I'm a secondary school student. I was just 16-yearold, but they did not listen to me. They beat us mercilessly and said we should shot up. I was in police custody for one week with other boys. Our parents were not aware we were in police custody.
"The police arraigned us at Igbosere Magistrates' Court, Obalende. They doctored my age from 16 to 19 years. The magistrate ordered we should be remanded in prison."
Amu said the case of the 16-yearold boy was most touching.
He said: "His age was doctored to be 19. We started rehabilitating him since he was released because he told us that he was kept in the open cell where there is high activity of homo$exuality.
"He said he was r@p€‎d several times a day. He is undergoing treatment and we have placed him on scholarship so he can continue his education." Amu added that boys were arraigned in court with no counsel representing them.
"As part of our prison ministry, we visit the courts regularly to help indigent accused with free legal services. We happened to be in court the day they were to be arraigned. It was a dock brief and we found out that they did not have any lawyer."
Bashua was not the only youngster arrested and charged to court for allegedly attacking policemen. Others were Oladepopo (21), Samson (21), Yinka (19) and Andrew (20). The boys would have continued to languish in prison but for the quick intervention of lawyers.
